Pic-nik Foods was a San Jose-based maker of prepared shoestring potatoes. Their manufacturing plant on Dupont Street just south of the San Jose train station was well-known for the smell of frying potatoes; stories tell of hoboes getting potatoes from the workers. Railroad crews working the spur referred to it as the "potato house".

The company was founded in the 1930's by Theo F. and Eva Eggers[1]. The company was supposedly sold to Beatrice Foods in the 1960's, then bought by First San Francisco investment bankers and sold to S&W Fine Foods in the 1980's. The brand is known as "Kobey's" on the east coast. The company is currently owned by Alliance Global[2].
